Self Portrait
Self PortraitWhile commuting home from work on the train, I noticed the setting sun casting dramatic light through the window. As I have taken very few self portraits, I felt the light was right to capture myself in an artistic manner. The photo was captured using an Essential PH-1 smartphone. This phone includes two rear cameras, one of which is a dedicated black and white camera. This monochrome camera was used in to capture this self portrait, rather than converting a color photo into black and white.

Playing with Trains
Playing with TrainsThis low key light portrait was shot indoors with a single flash. This is a photo of my son while playing with his trains. He doesn’t like his picture taken, so I had to capture him in the moment, not posed, and while he was distracted. This involved laying the camera and flash down until he stopped paying attention, then quickly snapping the shot - flash in one hand raised high and camera in the other, hoping both were pointing the right direction. Exposure was ISO 100, f/3.2, shutter speed 1/200. It was shot with a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX lens on a Canon M5.
